Got a gripe, kudo or glaring typo you can’t let go of? These tutorials are the work product of Matt Waite, Professor of Practice at the College of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. All praise, blame or otherwise are his alone. Email him at matt dot waite at unl dot edu.

More technically inclined and want to contribute to the code? Or make your own version using mine as a base? Good news. It’s all open source, with a GPL-3.0 license. That means you’re free to do with it what you want … except take it and sell it. If I don’t get to profit from it, neither do you. Only students win here. Issues and pull requests welcome!

Praise for the tutorials

A selection of comments from course evaluations:

“I really enjoyed working through the content, and I liked how much I was guided through. Professor Waite didn’t completely hold our hand through everything, but I felt the material was very accessible and easy to learn with the tutorials we were given.”

“The R studio tutorials were great because I was able to use them over and over between tutorials and the semester long project. It made coding easier to understand and do even though at times it would kick my ass, but I loved the challenge and once I got the hang of it my life got a lot easier.”

“The tutorials are perfect. I really feel like they are built to be helping tool for students and are effective way how to teach something. And a bonus is that I can come back to them any day and review how things are done.”

“The tutorials are really easy to follow and help me understand the goal of the assignments and how to complete them. They were also beneficial to have during the completion of the projects because it allowed me to look back at previous work and use it as a reference.”
